www.valcent.net	Valcent Products, Inc. is developing a photosynthetic bioreactor which is being employed to grow massive quantities of fast-growing vegetable oil producing algae as feedstock for refineries that produce biodiesel, the world's fastest growing bio fuel. Solayzme is using fermentation in the dark, rather than photosynthesis, to grow algae oil, which has produced the World’s First Algal-Based Jet Fuel. First Heavy-Duty Vehicle Powered by 100% Algal Derived Biofuel Soladiesel, Demonstrated at the 2008 DESC Worldwide Energy Conference.
www.solixbiofuels.com	Solix Biofuels is a direct intellectual descendant of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Aquatic Species Program, started in 1978 to explore ways to produce biodiesel from algae. Their goal is to build a closed algae growth system that is cost competitive with open systems.

ABC was created in 2008 under the leadership of Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ABC aims at providing a formal structure for a public/private partnership focused on addressing the continuing challenges in developing scalable algal biofuels.
www.livefuels.com	LiveFuels is a national alliance of labs and scientists dedicated to transforming algae into biocrude by the year 2010. Menlo Park, Calif. LiveFuels has said that it has a target of producing 100 million gallons by 2010 using genetic manipulation.
www.aurorabiofuels.com	Aurora BioFuels, Inc. is a renewable energy company exploring new sources of feedstock for the production of biofuels. In particular, Aurora utilizes microalgae to generate bio-oil, which can be converted into biodiesel. Claims they can create biodiesel fuel with yields that are 125 times higher and have 50 percent lower costs than current production methods.
www.seambiotic.com	Seambiotic is the first company in the world that is utilizing flue gas from coal burning power stations for algae cultivation. For the last five years, Seambiotic has carried out a R&D pilot study at the Israeli Electric Corporation's power plant located on the Mediterranean shore near the the city of Ashkelon, Israel.
www.petroalgae.com	Petro Algae. Based in Melbourne, Florida, PetroAlgae has a mission to build a successful technology platform for producing valuable products from Algae. PetroAlgae says that it hopes to test a commercial system in 2009.
www.algenolbiofuels.com	Algenol is is a privately owned Industrial Biotechnology Company commercializing the use of hybrid algae to make ethanol, and high-value organic green-chemicals directly from carbon dioxide, seawater and sunlight. The company’s first product is ethanol, which is made using hybrid algae in sealed, clear plastic photobioreactors through its unique, patented Direct to Ethanol technology powered by the sun. The company recently received a $25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, in concert with its partner on the Integrated Biorefinery project, The Dow Chemical Company. Algenol also announced a partnership with The Linde Group to develop CO2 capture and management technologies to increase biofuel production from algae, and a joint development agreement with Valero Services, Inc.Plant is in Lee County, Florida.
phycospectrum.com	Phyco Spectrum is involved in research and development of algae based technology to mitigate pollution, nullify global warming and help to eradicate malnutrition and energy crisis. Indian Co.
cellana.com	Cellana LLC, Kailua Kona, Hawaii, received a grant of $5,521,173. Cellana will work to develop a protein supplement from algae as a byproduct of algal biofuels production, by demonstrating its nutritional and economic value in livestock feeds. The project will characterize types of algae, assess the nutritional values of algal proteins, assess the potential for algal proteins to replace soybean meal, and develop algal protein supplements.

www.carbontrust.co.uk	Carbon Trust’s multi-million pound initiative into algae to transport fuels. The call for proposals for Phase 1 of the ABC opened in October and closed in mid-December 2008. Check back for next competition.
