ECO-PIRATE: The story of Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson is a feature-length documentary
about a man on a mission to save the planet and its oceans. Part Captain
Nemo, part Grizzly Man, the film follows Watson in the act as he
repeatedly flouts the law, so that he may apprehend what he sees as the
more serious law-breakers -- the illegal poachers of the world. From the
genesis of Greenpeace to the sinking of a pirate whaling ship off
Portugal, from clashes with fisherman in the Galapagos to Watson's
recent headline-grabbing battles with the Japanese whaling fleet in
Antarctica.

pollinators, the honeybee.

The Island President tells the story of
President Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, a man confronting a problem
greater than any other world leader has ever faced--the literal survival
of his country and everyone in it. As the lowest lying country in the
world, if the sea level rises a few feet, the picturesque islands of the
Maldives will be submerged and uninhabitable, like a modern-day
Atlantis. It could happen as soon as 2050.

World Peace...and other 4th-grade achievements interweaves the story of
John Hunter, a teacher in Charlottesville, Virginia, with his students'
participation in an exercise called the World Peace Game. The game
triggers an eight-week transformation of the children from students of a
neighborhood public school to citizens of the world. The film reveals
how a wise, loving teacher can unleash students' full potential. The
film traces how Hunter's unique teaching career emerges from his own
diverse background. An African-American educated in the segregated
schools of rural Virginia, where his mother was his 4th grade teacher,
he was selected by his community to be one of seven students to
integrate a previously all-white middle school. After graduation, he
traveled extensively to China, Japan, and India, and his exposure to the
Ghandian principles of non-violence led him to ask what he could do as a
teacher to work toward a more peaceful world. Hunter teaches the
concept of peace not as a utopian dream but as an attainable goal to
strive for, and he provides his students with the tools for this effort.
The children learn to collaborate and communicate with each other as
they work to resolve the Game's conflicts. They learn how to compromise
while accommodating different perspectives and interests. Most
importantly, the students discover that they share a deep and abiding
interest in taking care of each other. Learn more about John Hunter in this inspiring TED talk: www.ted.com
The Game
The World Peace
Game is a hands-on political simulation that gives players the
opportunity to explore the connectedness of the global community through
the lens of the economic, social, and environmental crises and the
imminent threat of war. The goal of the game is to extricate each
country from dangerous circumstances and achieve global prosperity with
the least amount of military intervention. As "nation teams," students
will gain greater understanding of the critical impact of information
and how it is used.
As their teams venture further into this
interactive social setting laced with highly charged philosophical
issues, the skills needed to identify ambiguity and bias in the
information they receive will be enhanced and more specifically they
will rapidly perceive that reactive behavior not only provokes
antagonism, it can leave them alone and isolated in the face of powerful
enemies. Beliefs and values will evolve or completely unravel as they
begin to experience the positive impact and windows of opportunity that
emerge through effective collaboration and refined communication. www.rosaliafilms.com

Pyrenees in a storm while walking The Camino de Santiago, also known as
The Way of Saint James. Driven by his profound sadness and desire to
understand his son better, Tom decides to embark on the historical
pilgrimage, leaving his "California bubble life" behind. Armed with his

Solitaire is backcountry skiing forged in the tradition of Western
cinema. Born in the spires of Argentina's legendary Las Lenas, a lonely
two-year journey begins through an abandoned world, wandering the length
of a continent from Peru's Cordillera Blanca to Chilean Patagonia. Lost
in the winds of snowbound badlands and the blizzards of primordial
forests; seen from a horse's saddle and a paraglider's wings; ridden on
ski and board and telemark... Solitaire fuses western-inspired tales of backcountry gambles into landscapes never before visited on film.
Premieres Sept 15th, 2011.

The Pipe is a thrilling documentary, portraying the story of a community tragically divided, and how they deal with an oil pipe that could bring economic prosperity or destruction of a way of life shared for generations. In a remote corner of the west of Ireland sits Broadhaven Bay. It is the perfect picture postcard, where the high cliffs of Erris Head and the Stags of Broadhaven stand sentry at the mouth of the bay against the mighty Atlantic, as if protecting the delicate golden sands of Glengad beach and the tiny village of Rossport which nestles behind the dunes. However this peaceful tranquility belies the turmoil that lies beneath, and the unique nature of the coastline which has sustained generations of farmers and fishermen, has also delivered to Shell Oil the perfect landfall for the Corrib Gas Pipeline. In the most dramatic clash of cultures in modern Ireland, the rights of farmers over their fields, and of fishermen to their fishing grounds, has come in direct conflict with one of the worlds most powerful oil companies. When the citizens look to their state for protection, they find that the state has put Shell's right to lay a pipeline ahead of their own rights.

In this documentary that shadows an Emmy-winning sound recordist at
work, writer-director Nick Sherman captures one man's solitary obsession
with obtaining "natural" sounds in an aural world that's littered with
noise. Recording sounds isn't just Gordon Hempton's occupation, a job
he's performed passionately for the past 30 years; to him, it's also an
art form -- and his preferred method of communication. "This is a remarkable journey: a quest for imperiled Nature by an artist who never stopped listening."-Ken Burns www.soundtrackerthemovie.com
Americans’ right to access fresh, healthy foods of their choice is
under attack. Farmageddon tells the story of small, family farms that
were providing safe, healthy foods to their communities and were forced
to stop, sometimes through violent action, by agents of misguided
government bureaucracies, and seeks to figure out why.
Filmmaker Kristin Canty’s quest to find healthy food for her four children turned into an educational journey to discover why access to these foods was being threatened. What she found were policies that favor agribusiness and factory farms over small family-operated farms selling fresh foods to their communities. Instead of focusing on the source of food safety problems — most often the industrial food chain — policymakers and regulators implement and enforce solutions that target and often drive out of business small farms that have proven themselves more than capable of producing safe, healthy food, but buckle under the crushing weight of government regulations and excessive enforcement actions.
